Working on the Weekend

This past weekend Rob and I tried to get the house ready to be painted and have the cabinets installed. The floors in the dining room and kitchen were originally hard wood floors, but had been tiled. We wanted to keep the hardwood floors, so we tried to strip the adhesive off the floor and get them ready to polyurethane.

Rob rented a floor sander from Lowe's and tried to sand down the floors to help get rid of the black adhesive. It worked in some spots, but not others. Rob noticed where he spilled water one day, the black adhesive was gone, so we used that as our Plan B. We wet the floors with a water/cleaner solution and let it sit. Fifteen minutes later, we scrubbed the floor and used a vacuum to dry the wood.

While it is hard to tell, most of the adhesive came off and we look forward to staining them!
